Alma, Wisconsin offers you a place to get away for a short winter stay in a scenic winter environment.  We're just a short drive from many Midwest cities.  The combination of Bald Eagles and the Mississippi River are a real treat.  Enjoy our National Historic District and beautiful historic river town in the midst of winter as you step into history.

Plan your winter travel around predicted weather events and you will find the travel easy.  The City of Alma and Buffalo County keep our roads clear and every day life goes on as we get our children to school and milk to market from the local dairy farms.

WINTER ACTIVITIES
Viewing Bald Eagles in the wild is a favorite winter activity in Alma.  In addition to our local resident bald eagles we have many Canadian bald eagles migrating to Alma for the open water below Lock & Dam #4 and a ready winter food source.
Cross County Skiing is popular at Merrick State Park.  Lots of trails and Mississippi River views.  State park pass required.  Bring your own skis.

WISCONSIN SNOW CONDITIONS | Cross Country Skiing
Ice Fishing continues to satisfy the angler's need to fish.  Many Mississippi River backwater spots are available ... just follow the trail of parked cars alongside the road.  You will need a Wisconsin fishing license.
Snowmobiling is fabulous in Buffalo County with access to ridge tops and deep valleys.  Views are incredible.  State trail passes are required for both residents and non-residents.  Snowmobile rentals are not available, you will have to trailer your own.  Snowmobile info available at Buffalo County Snowmobile Association.

WISCONSIN SNOW CONDITIONS | Snowmobiling
Snowshoe up Mossy Hollow Trail, at Buena Vista Park or Merrick State Park for great views.  Bring your own showshoes.  If you snowshoe at Merrick State Park you will need to purchase a State Park Pass.
